What are karma ranks? They're that little line of text in between your display name and your avatar. For instance, mine says 'StarClan Member'. If you just joined two seconds ago, yours probably says 'kit', unless you've posted more than 25 times in two seconds, in which case I tip my hat to you, good sir. But since that's probably not the case, my hat is staying safe and untipped at the top of my head.
Now, let's get back on topic. All the possible ranks are warrior-themed, except for the highest rank of all, the Super Message Board User. But to my knowledge, there are only 12 of those, so good luck getting that rank. The lowest possible rank is kit, which is what you always start out as when you join unless you are Chuck Norris, and the highest one, like I said before, is Super Message Board User. How do you gain karma points, you might ask? If you are Chuck Norris, you don't have to because you start out with 10 billion points. If you are anybody else, you post. It's as simple as that. Each time you post, you get 1 point. So if you have 2 posts, you have 2 points, and if you have 10 million posts, you have 10 million points and also are most likely Chuck Norris.
If you go to the 'karma' section of your profile, under 'personal settings', it will tell you how many points you have, what rank you are, and your 'level', which is just where your rank stands from 1 to 9. So kit is 1, and SMBU is 9. Every time you go up a rank, you go up a level. It also shows how much posts you need for each rank. How handy! I'll copy and paste it for those lazy people out there:
(1) Kit: 0
(2) Apprentice: 25
(3) Warrior: 100
(4) Deputy: 200:leopardleg01
(5) Clan Leader: 500
(6) Elder: 5,000
(7) StarClan Member: 10,000
(8) StarClan Leader: 50,000
(9) Super Message Board User: 100,000
But what would be even more handy for the karma page to show is: What point to these magical karma ranks serve?
The answer is: Absolutely none.
They are exactly what I called them in the second sentence: That little line of text in between your display name and your avatar. The main reason why I made this thread was because I noticed many people think the ranks actually mean something. Far from it, my friends. They're just these fun little meaningless things that show how much you've posted. It doesn't show how long you've been here, for there are kits who joined three years ago and deputies who joined yesterday. It doesn't show how 'experienced' you are. It doesn't show your forum 'privelages'. A SMBU has no more abilities than a kit, except for the fact that you're a little more likely to be looked up to by a newbie. Nothing happens when you gain a rank, other than the fact that you have a different word or set of words in between your display name in your avatar.
But, though ranks technically don't mean much other than your post count, it's fun to pretend they mean something. Go on and celebrate becoming an elder with a prune-juice powered party thread, or becoming a StarClan member with a roleplay 'funeral'. It's fun. Just know that you don't suddenly have the power to join a roleplay Clan after you become an apprentice, because anybody can do that.
